TDI-Compliant Windstorm Inspections & WPI-8 Documentation
On existing homes or buildings, individual structural components—such as windows, doors, roofs, or siding—can be inspected and certified separately to ensure they meet current windstorm standards. This means if you replace or upgrade a specific part of your property, like installing new impact-resistant windows or a new roof, each of these items can receive its own certification for compliance.
For new residential construction, however, the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) requires that the entire structure be inspected and certified as a whole for windstorm compliance. This comprehensive certification is documented through the issuance of a WPI-8 certificate. The WPI-8 confirms that the new home has been constructed in accordance with all applicable windstorm building codes and standards, making it eligible for windstorm insurance coverage through the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA).
Whether you are updating an existing property or building a new one along the Texas Gulf Coast, our team is fully qualified to perform the necessary inspections and provide all required certifications to keep your project on track and in full compliance with TDI regulations.
Inspection steps
Foundation & Floor Framing Inspection
Verify that the foundation and floor framing meet windstorm-resistant standards, including proper anchoring and elevation above flood levels.
Framing Inspection
Assess all framing components (walls, roof, and floor systems) for compliance with wind load requirements, including correct installation of bracing and tie-downs.
Sheathing Inspection
Inspect wall and roof sheathing for proper thickness, fastener type, and spacing to withstand wind pressures.
Window & Door Inspection
Check that all exterior windows and doors are impact-resistant or properly protected with storm shutters as required by code.
Roof Covering Inspection
Ensure roofing materials and installation methods comply with wind uplift standards, including proper fastening patterns and edge securement.
Final Inspection
A comprehensive review of the completed structure to verify all components meet TDI windstorm certification requirements, including mechanical tie-down.
